Now that the sun is spending less time shining during the day and temperatures are starting to drop, it’s time to rethink our wardrobe and switch to autumn clothes. There’s no need, however, to put everything away, because this autumn you can put together some perfect outfits using your summer clothes.
In fact, this is the ideal time to make the most of the pieces we’ve worn this summer to create outfits that are perfect for the transitional seasons. Simply add a layer, check the lengths carefully and play around with layering to transform a summer dress into the perfect autumn look. Let’s find out how.
The midi dress isn’t going on holiday
Midi dresses are among the easiest styles to wear, even in autumn. The below-the-knee length provides just the right amount of coverage and is perfect for those warmer days, from morning to evening. A midi dress can be paired with a cropped jacket or a blazer, whilst a belt can be added over a looser-fitting style to define the silhouette. They’re perfect with trainers, ballet flats and knee-high boots.
Long dress and jacket: the perfect combo
Sometimes a single piece is all it takes to completely transform a dress – even better if it’s a long one. Simply choose a cropped jacket, perhaps paired with a flowing dress, for a contemporary look to show off in your free time. For more fitted pieces, on the other hand, you can opt for a blazer, which is also suitable for the office. The casual alternative, meanwhile, is a denim jacket – this season’s absolute star.
A shirt under a dress
For days that are still mild but call for a more elegant look, you can make the most of a shirt. Worn under a sleeveless dress or one with thin straps, it allows you to create fresh and original looks suitable for any time of day or evening. Alternatively, try a short-sleeved T-shirt – or a long-sleeved one for the evening – to completely transform your summer dress, which would otherwise probably have ended up in a corner of your wardrobe.
Summer dresses in the autumn: how and when to wear them
If you have a dress you just can’t bear to part with, but the temperatures are dropping more than expected, try pairing it with a jumper or a cotton T-shirt worn underneath the dress. You can already start wearing tights, or alternatively, leggings or flared trousers, especially with midi dresses.
