If the calendar marks that day, the one we have been waiting for all year, then it means it is really close:the holidays have officially begun. And, regardless of the chosen destination, it is also time to pack.
Packing is never easy, especially when we want to mix style and comfort, and maybe even travel light. Yet every year, the temptation to carry an entire wardrobe is always lurking.
There is a solution, however, and it is to choose versatile, space-saving garments, which fold easily, which match each other, which work on different occasions and which thus allow us to create different holiday looks.
Space-saving items to pack to create lots of holiday looks
Where to start? By choosing practical and basic garments that can be transformed into passe-partouts and that, thanks to the combinations, can be worn from morning to night, from the beach to the restaurant, with minimal bulk and maximum style. Here are our favourites.
The long (or midi) dress: your jolly ally
There's nothing more practical and chic than a long or midi dress in a lightweight fabric, which alone can create an entire holiday look. Opt for fresh fabrics such as cotton, linen or viscose, preferably in neutral or light colours, so you can use it both during the day and in the evening.
Matching outfit
Lightweight coordinates are a real must-have for summer. Not only because they are beautiful and stylish, but also because they are super practical. They can be worn together for a studied look, but also separately, mixed with other garments to create new outfits. Among our favourites are those with crop tops and shorts, and those with oversized shirts and full skirts. Both are perfect for daytime and evening wear.
Versatile and easy to match tops
Tops can never be missing from your suitcase. With or without straps, with special necklines, in basic or cropped versions: choose the ones you like best and combine them with skirts and trousers for practical and comfortable holiday looks. The advice is to opt for two or three models, preferably in light colours, and mix them with denim or cotton shorts for the day, and with palazzo trousers or short skirts for the evening.
Maxi shirt: the passe-partout garment
To create a summer look, perfect both for the beach and for walking, the maxi shirt remains an evergreen. In linen or cotton, the oversize model becomes the smart garment to be declined in a multitude of ways: cover-up for the day, light jacket for the evening or worn alone with a belt just like a dress. What colour to choose? White, of course.
Shorts or comfortable skirt: practicality with style
A linen shorts and a flowing midi skirt are a must. Both are easy to match with any top, take up little space and are perfect both for sightseeing and for a sunset dinner.
A pair of flat sandals and a more chic one
Shoes take up space in a suitcase, we know, but they are essential for our holiday looks. The advice? Choose just two pairs: one comfortable pair for walking (low sandal or soft-soled slipper), and one more elegant pair, perhaps with a golden or metallic touch.
Extra tip: light and strategic accessories
Don't forget, of course, to take your accessories with you. You only need a few, but versatile ones, which can be mixed and matched in different ways to create always original styles. Our favourites include: raffia bags, perfect for day and evening, maxi sunglasses, hair accessories such as scarves and scrunchies and sparkling jewellery.
