For many, the week of Ferragosto marks the end of the holidays. Although summer is still very much in full swing, we cannot ignore the fact that we need to startpreparing for the arrival of September and the return to work. In the meantime, however, as we head back into town, we also need to give our wardrobes a bit of a rethink – but always with a light touch.
Getting back into the swing of things, whilst temperatures are still high, calls for a certain dress code to get through the day, especially as our diaries start to fill up with the first commitments. So, go ahead and wear the summer pieces we’ve loved during the warmer months, but styled in new ways – even for an early return to work. Here are our favourites.
Flowy trousers and a T-shirt: the look for returning to work
If you’re returning to work sooner than expected, you’ll need to think about outfits suited to the season and the temperatures. After weeks spent wearing light dresses and shorts, regaining that comfort might seem like a distant dream, but it’s not that difficult. A pair of flowing trousers, perhaps in a neutral shade, are the perfect solution to pair with abasic T-shirtor a blouse for a touch of chic. On your feet, ballet flats, loafers or minimalist trainers complete a neat yet extremely comfortable look.
A midi skirt and a simple top for a day in the city
If you’re back in town but still have some free time to enjoy, a midi skirt is the perfect item to carry that holiday vibe with you. For everyday errands, strolls and August aperitifs, it can be worn with a simple top, a tank top or a T-shirt, whilst still maintaining a fully summery allure.
Jeans and a shirt: the chic post-holiday uniform
Jeans are probably the item that most of all signals a return to routine, but they can still be worn in August, whether in a cropped or full-length style. Depending on your plans for the day, you can choose a loose, comfy pair and pair them with a white, light blue or striped shirt. With sandals or trainers, the overall look remains fresh and summery, whilst with loafers and a structured bag it instantly takes on a more sophisticated air, perfect for the cool evenings of late summer.
Summer dress and light jacket: the look with an eye on September
It’s probably the most popular combination at this time of year, especially for returning to work and for evenings out. The dress remains a light summer style, but adding a jacket on top completely transforms the look. Opt for a lightweight blazer, a short-sleeved denim jacket or a shirt, and complete the look with flat sandals and a tote bag.
Bermuda shorts and a waistcoat: the summer outfit to show off in town
There’s still time for Bermuda shorts – and how! A tailored pair paired with a matching waistcoat creates a modern outfit that’s perfect for heading back into town. Underneath, you can wear a simple vest top or a T-shirt, whilst on your feet you can alternate between sandals, loafers or ballet flats.
